We believe that gaining first-hand experience of a work place is a really valuable experience for our students in year 10.  It allows them to develop some of those key employability skills that employer say they are looking for in young people - skills such as leadership, teamwork, listening, problem solving, speaking, creativity, staying positive and aiming high.

Year 10 Work Experience

All of our year 10 students managed to secure a placement and were involved in sessions afterwards where they were asked to reflect  on the skills they think they developed most and to set the next steps they should take to prepare for the world of work.  We are very grateful to our community of employers for giving our students the opportunity to gain this experience.  Employers have been varied and diverse, ranging from architects to art galleries and football clubs to high commissions.

We have endless examples of hugely positive feedback, here are just a few:

Edward S at New Cross Nursery:  "Edward was really engaged and the students love him, especially the boys playing football"

Alma S at the Common Cafe: "Alma was very amenable, proactive and happy to get on independently"

Adam J at AMOS Pictures:  "Adam is making a meaningful contribution towards work that will help the company's tv programme and his language skills are being used to full effect too"

Lyla-Rose S at Roche: "Lyla-Rose has been a great ambassador for you all!"

Ezekiel A at Judith Kerr Primary  School: "Ezekiel is the politest boy I have ever met, on time every day, it has been great to have him"

Azusa KB at Engitix:  "Azusa has been ‘perfect'. She has been getting lots done and has been very useful. She is always on time and is very enthusiastic."

Hisham M at the Jamaican High Commission: "Hisham demonstrated exceptional professionalism and dedication to her duties throughout her time with us".

Year 12 Work Experience

A number of students are still to register their placements on Unifrog - this is essential so that we can ensure the requisite insurances and health and safety practices are in place before gathering approval from parents, employers and the school.  Please remind your child to ensure that this is done as soon as possible.  Any students who are struggling to find a placement should come and see the careers team in room 305.
