Pupils at The Charter School North Dulwich are today celebrating their outstanding GCSE results.

This year sees more subjects publishing results with the new grading system of 1-9, in addition to Maths and English which adopted the new system last year following government reforms to the exam system.

‍

• 84% of all students in Year 11 gained a standard pass or above in both English and Maths (grade 4 to 9) – up from 76% last year
• 68% gaining a strong pass in both English and Maths (grade 5 to 9) – up from 61% last year
• 39% of all grades gained this year were 7-9 or A*/A this year
• 36% of pupils achieved five 7-9 (or A*/A) grades in their GCSEs, up from 35% in 2017
• 51% of pupils gained the English Baccalaureate (45% in 2017)
• 77% of pupils gained at least one 7-9 or A*/A grade (74% in 2017)

Headteacher Christian Hicks said today:

“These fantastic results are the result of our Year 11 students’ hard work and determination over the past two years. We are extremely proud of all of our Year 11 students for their perseverance and commitment to excellence that has led to this success.  Once again, in line with Ofqual advice, we are advising that these results cannot be compared directly with previous years due to the new grading system, but we are very confident that they will once again put us among the very top performing non-selective state schools in the country.  We are also very grateful to our teachers and support staff for their contribution to these excellent results.”

David Hung who gained 9 GCSEs including three grade 9s in English literature, English language and Geography

Samuel Farias Lima who gained 8 GCSEs, including 2 at grade 9, and a Distinction* in his Sports & Leisure BTEC

Alice Latimer who gained 10 GCSEs, including seven at grade 9

Angel Skyers who gained 9 GCSEs including one grade 9 and one grade 8

Thomas Sharpe who gained 8 GCSEs, including seven at grade 9 and one grade 8

Dipti Misra who gained 9 GCSEs including grade 9 in English language and English literature

Livvy O’Hagan who gained 9 GCSEs, including six at grade 9 and two at grade 8

Iwe Aguma who gained 9 GCSEs, including a grade 8 in English

Hal Rejali who gained 9 GCSEs, including six at grade 9

Joe Hill who gained 7 GCSEs and one BTEC including a grade 7 in Maths

Sam Baillie who gained 10 GCSEs, including six at grade 9 and three at grade 8

Clara Benady who gained 11 GCSEs, including five at grade 9 and three at grade 8

Odette Bolton who gained 9 GCSEs, including five at grade 9 and four at grade 8

Salima Mwambazi who gained 9 GCSEs, including 2 at grade 8

Ruby Fuller who gained 9 GCSEs, including five at grade 9 and two at grade 8 and one A*

In BTEC subjects 100% of Business students, 87% of Sports & Leisure students, 62% of ICT students and 54% of Child Development students gained a level 2 or above.

Notes:

New GCSE Grading System: A new grading scale of 9 to 1 was introduced last year, with 9 being the top grade. This will allow greater differentiation between students and will help distinguish the new GCSEs from previous versions. Last year the new system applied to Maths, English language and English literature, and this year includes science, computing, geography, history, art, French, Latin, Spanish, drama, music, PE, religious studies and citizenship. All other GCSE courses will introduce the new grading system by June 2019.
