Last year, Sable in Year 9 was awarded the Jack Petchey Award and chose to use the prize for an "art dropdown day" for her year group. Just before half-term, twenty Year 9 students, joined by Mr. Goswami and Mr. Richards, visited the Yoshida: Three Generations of Japanese Printmaking exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery.
The day included an introduction to the gallery's history, hands-on art activities in the gallery and classroom, and a final task of designing and creating their own prints. The students' engagement and creativity impressed everyone involved.
Back at school, after lunch, they participated in a lino print workshop led by Ms. Milsom, inspired by Yoshida's block prints. Praising their work, she remarked, "They should be so proud of themselves—this is something we don’t usually do until Year 10! What fabulous artists you have!"
Well done, Year 9, and thank you, Sable, for making it all possible!
